LOOK GREAT AT ANY AGE!
My name is Sharleen, although you may just know me as ‘the daughter’, which suits me just fine.
If you have ever met my mother, Annie Young, you would understand why….She is a fantastic role model. I have been working with her in our business for the past 15 years. I was 26 when I started, now I am turning 42, and am concerned with the same issues that concern all of you reading this blog.
I have always said that Annie was born to do makeup. She has been making women look and feel beautiful for over 30 years. She is as excited and passionate today as she always has been.
It’s incredible to watch the transformation a woman experiences during a makeup session. Many times women arrive looking and feeling tired, stressed out, and ‘not in the mood’. They always leave feeling amazing, and looking gorgeous, sexy, empowered and ready for whatever it is they need to face that day!
When Cheryl came in to have her makeup done, she wanted to learn how to improve her makeup skills. We were looking forward to her visit. Cheryl is a beautiful woman who seems to be open to new ways of taking care of herself so that she can look and feel her best. I watched as Cheryl’s attitude toward herself changed as she looked in mirror throughout the process of making her just a little more beautiful…..Let’s face it, it doesn’t take much!
Annie and Cheryl discussed beauty issues that women over 40 are concerned with, and Annie listed what women should be doing as they age to stay healthy and looking good.
This conversation is not new for Annie, she is constantly preaching to her clients the following:
Eat well, and drink lots of water
Exercise regularly- find what you like to do and change it up so you don’t lose interest
Follow an appropriate skin care regime for your skin type- seek professional advice
Have regular facials, and treatments
Learn how to do your makeup well, from a professional, with good quality products for your skin
We always start with the eyes; it’s easy to clean up if makeup falls on the face. Everyone has different shaped eyes, which change, not for the better, as we get older. Small lids, with excess skin, get smaller and heavier, and deep set eyes go deeper.
No problem. With primer, a couple of eye shadow colours, and a black, or brown pencil, you too can have beautiful sultry eyes. Start with a shadow primer all over the lid, followed by a light shadow all over the lid, and finally a darker colour in the outer corner and into crease.
A couple of tips to keep in mind- always finish your strokes upwards, never down, and make sure that everything is well blended.
Who doesn’t want their faces to look even toned, totally fresh and youthful! There are so many choices, finding the right foundation can be completely overwhelming. It needs to be the right texture, and colour. A product that gives a radiant glow, with just the right amount of coverage for your individual skin tone is what you are looking for. Annie and I carry a few different lines of makeup, which gives us the flexibility in choosing the right product for every woman. We prefer to try something on first to see if it is ‘the one’.
Be very careful when choosing a concealer for under your eyes. Make sure it is moisturizing and highlighting at the same time, and should be applied under the eye as well as on the outer corner- don’t forget, upwards towards the outside corner!!!
Apply bronzer everywhere the sun would hit your face. The challenge in choosing the right product is making sure you don’t end up matte and orange, a total faux pas! Achieving a golden brown finish or bronzed glow is what you should be looking for.
Regarding blush; if you need some color apply blush to the apple of your cheek and then follow thru up the cheek bone. Otherwise apply the blush to your cheekbone only. Whatever you do, definitely wear blush! Bronzer alone just doesn’t do it.
Invest in a good lip primer. To achieve full and supple looking lips, Annie whips out her lip primer. It is applied on and around the edges of the lips, has a smoothing effect to the skin, stops lipsticks and liners from bleeding, and holds the lipstick on your lips for a longer period of time.
Annie uses the same upward motion when applying lip liner. It keeps the lips looking full, and healthy. She blends the liner before applying the lipstick. We tend to like lipsticks that are creamy and moisturizing. Lips need nourishing moisture, just like our bodies and faces, to prevent dryness and aging. She then reapplies the liners and adds a touch of gloss to the center of the lips to soften the whole face.
With one more dab of this and that, and a final look in the mirror Annie and Cheryl decide the job is done!
After a couple of cappuccinos, lots of chatting, and Annie’s natural soft touch Cheryl looks radiant!
Working with Cheryl was a real treat, I think she is going to do great. She was open to learning new things, and that’s the first ingredient to success. We are looking forward to having Cheryl come back for another visit.
Next, Annie wants to have a more detailed session on the proper tools, and how to use them.
Until then……take care of yourselves, and try to start doing at least one thing on Annie’s list per day!
